In this course, students will learn introductory methods in groundwork, climbing and aerial lift and rescue. Core concepts covered include job site analysis, chainsaw handling and operation, knots and rigging, climbing, basic tree ID and pruning and fundamental aerial lift and rescue. Course meets in-person over eight days during Spring 2024: April 11-12, April 18-19, April 25-26 and May 2-3. Course is taught at the introductory level.
This 1.5 day course will cover all aspects of chainsaw safety, handling, maintenance including the six-step felling process of how to properly fell a tree also dealing with trees after they are on the ground limbing and bucking. Some hands-on performing of notching, saw handling and felling will be incorporated. This course is MIOSHA M-TEC GRANT FUNDED.

The Tree Risk Assessment re-Qualification Course is a one-day refresher, with five hours of instruction, and three hours to take the exam. Current TRAQ holders can complete the abbreviated course as early as four years into their qualification.
