You are invited to…
Support this educational and competitive learning experience for those working in the arboriculture industry where the highest level of professional skills and safety are showcased to award the 2018 Champion.

We are up north in Traverse City, Michigan for the first time; showcasing the beautiful landscape of the Grand Traverse Commons. Public education is a priority at this event and vendor/sponsorship opportunities are available.  There will be local media coverage as well. MTCC is in the news! The City of Traverse City, Grand Traverse Convention and Visitors Bureau and The Minervini Group at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons are supporting this event through local marketing and in-kind sponsorships.  You do not want to miss participating in this event!
What is Arbor Fair?
Arbor Fair will be concurrent with the Michigan Tree Climbing Championship and is a free educational and fun event for the general public that highlights environmental issues and promotes proper tree care. Arbor Fair features educational exhibits, interactive children’s activities, and much more. At this year’s event we've invited distributors and artisans to showcase their products. The former Traverse City State Hospital is immersed in over 100 years of history.  The evolution from  a state run asylum to a thriving and bustling community is the foundation of what makes The Village what it is today. In January of 1882, Architect Gordon W. Lloyd of Detroit was chosen to design the Northern Michigan Asylum. It was modeled in accordance with the Kirkbride Plan, which consists of a center administrative section and wings on either side for housing patients. Each patient room had a view of the outside, with a direct supply of light, sunshine and fresh air.

Founding Medical Superintendent Dr. James Decker Munson believed in the moral treatment movement, which at the time was revolutionary. Central to this belief was Dr. Munson’s philosophy that “Beauty is Therapy.” If patients were surrounded by a beautiful environment, from the architecture to the campus grounds, their emotional and mental state would be uplifted.

The Village campus is abundant with a wide array of trees from all over the world with most of them located on our front lawn. Part of Dr. James Decker Munson’s “Beauty is Therapy” ideal, was to surround the hospital with beautiful trees for the patients and their families to enjoy. In fact, there is such a variety of trees, many local schools advise their students to visit our lawn for their Leaf Collection assignments. Imagine…finding a Gingko Biloba tree, right in Traverse City! One of the most notable arboretums in the state!
