Work Positioning Hands-on Workshop

A hands-on workshop in work positioning for the climbing tree worker. Topics covered include: spikeless pruning techniques, how to position effectively while performing removals on spikes, how to set up a rigging system and climbing system on the tree/spar trunk. Negative rigging treetops and sections of trunk will be reviewed. Lunch is included.

8:00 - 8:15am Intro & Agenda Review with Expectations
8:15 - 8:30am Tree Bolts
Instructors will review and demo how a climber sets up on a spar to rig a top or a section of wood. MRS and SRS configurations explained.
8:45 - 9:15am Attendee Gear Inspection
9:15 - 10:00am Small Working Group Bolt Exercise
A hands-on exercise for each attendee to learn how to set up on a spar to rig a top or a section of wood.
10:00-10:15am Break
10:15 – 11:00am Discussion and demo spikeless climbing techniques.
11:00am - 12:00pm Outside Workshop Part 1
Instruct on the importance of and set up first aid station and designate Spoc 1 and Spoc 2. Instructors will demonstrate climbing with spikes going up and ascending with lanyard and climb line. Attendees will have an opportunity to demonstrate skills learned.
12:00 - 12:45 Lunch
12:45 – 5:00pm Climbing on Spikes and Spikeless Climbing
Equipment Required: PPE-helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, and saw, chainsaw, saddle, climbing system, positioning lanyard, climbing spikes, rigging rope, block and sling.
