26th ANNUAL MICHIGAN TREE CLIMBING CHAMPIONSHIP

CHANGES LOCATION AND HEADS TO MANISTEE

Ypsilanti – ISA Michigan (formally the Arboriculture Society of Michigan) is moving its 26th Annual Michigan Tree Climbing Championship (MTCC) to Orchard Beach State Park in Manistee, Michigan. The outside event had been planned for Belle Isle in Detroit, however due to restrictions on outside gatherings in Regions 1-5 and 7 it became challenging to hold the event in Detroit.  Finding a location in Region 6, where Manistee is located, will allow the event to be held as it was planned.  The ISA Michigan Board of Directors and the MTCC Committee are looking forward to working with the DNR and local Manistee companies and residents on planning the Competition and bringing awareness of the profession and tree care to the community.

The MTCC brings top professional tree climbers (men and women) from all over Michigan to compete to be the one (1) Climber representing Michigan at the 2021 International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC) in Sweden. This is a unique opportunity to see professional tree climbers in action testing their speed, endurance and safety in a simulated work situation while in a tree.

Professional Tree Climbers are athletes who prepare for and work daily in trees.  They use similar climbing gear that rock climbers use and must meet strict climbing safety requirements and regulations. The top winners in the five events will go on to compete at the end of the day in the Masters’ Challenge - the final deciding factor on the overall winner of the day’s events and the one that will represent Michigan at the 2021 ITCC.

The MTCC event is FREE and OPEN to the General Public!  More details on activities for the public, including kids, will be available on the ISA Michigan website (www.asm-isa.org). Hours for the two-day event are Friday, September 18 from 3:00-5:30pm and Saturday, September 19 from 7:30am-6:00pm.  Professional Tree Climbers pay a registration fee to participate.  Prize packages include equipment and gear sponsored by ArborMaster.  Bring your picnic basket, watch and cheer on the climbers. MTCC is a great family activity. For more information visit www.asm-isa.org, email info@asm-isa.org, or call 517-337-4999.  All required local Covid-19 safety protocols will be followed at the event.
